About Nu Swim

Founded in California in 2015, Nu Swim is now a New York based swimwear and lifestyle brand designing garments that favor fit, construction, functionality and simplicity.

Our aim is to create sustainable, timeless pieces made with the highest quality materials that can be worn as an uncomplicated second skin. Our swimwear is made with fabric from recycled ocean waste and regenerated nylon, knits from organic cotton grown in the US and ready-to-wear from sustainable materials, all to carry on beyond our lifetime.

We don’t believe in swimming seasons, and hope our customers create some sort of adventure in finding a place to swim, no matter the time of year.

We take a large amount of pride in the work we do, read more about us below.

In 2015 our initial collection was based on four swim basics, the Straight One Piece, Basic High Bottom, Basic Low Bottom & Straight Top. Since then, we have slowly expanded to include more styles that flatter different shapes and offer maximum comfort in a range of swimming or lifestyle situations. Pieces for lounging on the beach, powering through a lap swim and most that function for both. To us, our swimwear is created for more than swimming; we find ourselves layering our one pieces, tops and bottoms under just about everything.

Manufacturing

An important component at the foundation of our business is our commitment to working closely with our manufacturing partners. We have been manufacturing in the United States since our inception and work hard to ensure our manufacturing partners are treated respectfully and paid fair wages. In our hands-on approach, we currently work with one family-owned cut and sew production facility in New York City. We travel to our factory by public transportation, bicycle or car. Our hands-on method has allowed us to quickly learn, correct and improve along the way. Local production reduces the carbon emissions caused by overseas production.

Packaging

Our commitment to sustainability expands to our packaging, where we use recyclable, plastic-free and biodegradable materials. We aim to create the lowest environmental impact possible when selecting packaging options for shipping your order.

Our garment bags are made from a 100% biodegradable and compostable sugarcane-based material that uses 60% less CO2 emissions to produce than the usual plastic garment bag.

Our swimwear liners and garment bag stickers are also made from sugarcane and 100% biodegradable and compostable. Produced in Chicago by Elevate Packaging, who also develops a large range of biodegradable packaging products.

Finally, all of our shipping materials are sourced from EcoEnclose, an environmentally focused shipping supplies company based in Colorado.

We are always happy to share our resources, especially if it means we are sharing environment-focused information to companies or people who are curious on how to improve their footprint upon our beautiful planet. Please reach out to us at info@nu-swim.com if you are curious or have suggestions

Swimwear

At our core, we are committed to sustainability, whether that means making classic high-quality garments that can be worn season after season, the way we cut to reduce fabric waste, or in the sourcing of our swim fabrics, that to date are 100% derived from regenerated ocean waste (such as fishing nets and carpet fluff), and emit 0% emissions into the atmosphere while milling. These fabrics are sourced from the best mills in Italy. We also use natural rubber throughout and recycled polyester thread whenever possible.

Organic Cotton

Introduced in March 2020, Nu Swim's Organic Cotton collection is made with you and the earth in mind. All cotton is grown in South Carolina and Texas and milled in North Carolina, scoured with biodegradable citrus scour and dyed with low impact fiber reactive dyes that are not harmful to the earth. All custom colors are fiber-reactive dyed locally in NYC.
